GroundWorks Natural Icemelter ™ has been developed for the residential homeowner. It is very powerful, yet quite safe to use. It is also available in several convenient sizes, packagings and configurations, making application quick and easy.

Composition

GroundWorks Natural™ Icemelter is a fertilizer based icemelter. It is made primarily from potassium chloride and its by-products making it the choice of those concerned about the environment. Potassium, a required nutrient to plant life, has long been known as a safe ingredient to melt ice safely.

Performance

GroundWorks Natural™ Icemelter melts ice to -23°C (-9°F). The product will start working immediately upon application and will continue to melt the ice until the noted temperature has been exceeded. The product has been independently third party lab tested to these temperatures. The tests show the rate at which the product melts slows as the noted temperature is exceeded.

Application Method / Rate

GroundWorks Natural™ Icemelter is best applied in a uniform even distribution. It should be spread at a rate of 50 – 100 grams per square metre (¼ - ½ cup per square yard). It is easiest to spread by mechanical means, such as a spreader, depending on size of coverage. It is recommended to remove ice and slush once ice bond has broken.

Icemelter may be applied at the beginning of a storm to prevent hard ice accumulations.

Environmental Impact

GroundWorks Natural™ Icemelter is safe on the surfaces it is used upon and the environment, when used as directed. It provides nutrients to plant life and tests have shown that it will actually repair soil damage caused by the previous use of rock salt based deicers.

GroundWorks Natural™ Icemelter contains no urea and is safe to groundwater systems. Urea contains nitrogen, which breaks down to ammonia and is toxic to fish at very low concentrations.

Storage & Handling

Gloves are optional in the spreading of GroundWorks Natural™ Icemelter. It is totally safe to handle, and safe around children and pets. Pets can walk on the product and not harm their paws. The product is WHMIS exempt in Canada, and OSHA exempt in USA.
